At the TruthJuice evening, Japjeet will be giving an introduction into the science and technology of Kundalini Yoga (as taught by Yogi Bhajan), as well as introduce you to a number of simple yet very effective and easily applicable KY pranayam (breathing) techniques, exercises and meditations that all help one with stress-management and enhamcing one’s vitality and efficiency. She will also be sharing nutritional and lifestyle advice from the tradition of Kundalini Yoga and will be answering any questions from the audience. Japjeet has been teaching similar programmes to students and staff at Warwick University (Coventry) and Leuven University (Belgium).
All exercises she will be teaching can be done sitting on a chair, so there is no need to bring yoga gear. The evening is open to experienced yoga practitioners and teachers from all yoga schools as well as to complete novices.
KUNDALINI YOGA – A BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Kundalini Yoga (KY) is the mother of all yoga forms and the origin and most powerful form of all 22 schools of yoga. It is also known as the ‘Yoga of Awareness’ because it gives the practitioner the experience of ecstasy within oneself, not outside oneself. “The old sages developed the science of Kundalini Yoga to develop the caliber of the human, in the fastest, smallest time.” (Yogi Bhajan)
Kundalini Yoga is mainly characterised by quite dynamic, repetitive exercises, a strong attention to the breath which helps intensify the effects of the poses with the purpose of freeing energy in the lower body and allowing it to move upwards, and the use of mantra. The exercises help you to become more aware of your physical, mental and emotional condition and to subsequently influence them in a positive way. The overall result of a regular KY practice is the balancing of the chakras (energy wheels or centers along the spine) and the alignment of our ten spiritual Bodies. This in turn awakens us to who we really are: spiritual beings having a human experience.
The benefits of practicing KY include:
